The Youth Services, Director, Dr. Dean Burchinson, announced a Job Shadow program for high school students on April 20th. Students accompanied participating club members to their respective jobs for a day of education in the workforce.
The Public Safety Awards were presented on May 15th. Invitations for entries have been submitted to the local municipalities.
The incoming president, John Hagenow, was installed at a picnic to be held on June 24th, 2007 at Sgt. Means Park in Olympia Fields.
The 5th Annual Art Auction was held at Engbretson Hall, Governors State University, on Thursday, November 9, 2007.
The event was chaired by President John Hagenow and will be assisted with the aid of all member Rotarians.
Proceeds went to the Special Kids Fund, Inc. of the Matteson Rotary Club to fund scholarships and other upcoming projects.

Past President Jan Hiley met with the District 6450 Grants Committee on Saturday, November 11, 2006 to present a grant application co-sponsored by the Vizag Midtown Rotary Club (Rotary District 3020) and the Matteson Rotary Club to purchase equipment and to support the staff of the Rotary Netra Rural Eye Hospital in Saripalii village, Visakhapatnam, India. The Grants Committee approved a $1,500 grant to the project. The application will be submitted to The Rotary Foundation for matching funding. The Avoidable Blindness Foundation of Rotary also approved a grant of $2,000 towards the project. Founded in 1992 by the Vizag Midtown Rotary Club, the Netra Rural Eye Hospital serves an impoverished rural area of approximately 1,500,000 by performing surgery for cataracts and glaucoma, educating the populace about eye-health and eye-care, and dispensing Vitamin A to needy children to prevent childhood blindness. The hospital performs over 4,000 cataract surgeries annually.

Janice Hiley, President of the Matteson Rotary Club, presents a bronze plaque to Dave Guritz, Director of Irons Oaks, commemorating the $2,000 donation the club presented at a luncheon held in the Discovery Center. The donation, made in honor of Rotary’s Centennial Anniversary, will be used to fund an exhibit at the newly constructed Center. The Discovery Center will be a state-of-the-art environmental learning facility having interactive technologies and hands-on displays that will provide unique learning opportunities for school groups and park visitors. Imaging, sound recording, and presentation technologies will integrate natural area field studies into digital exhibits created by park visitors. “OUR POLISH WEDDING” A fundraising event to celebrate the installation of officers of the Matteson Rotary Club was a huge success. The event was held on June 11th at Governors State University. The proceeds enabled the Matteson Rotary Club to fund two scholarships and provide food and toy baskets to the needy in the community.

Hosting Event on June 18th After participating in the Olympia Fields Garden Walk on June 18th, the Matteson Rotary Club hosted 36 Rotarians from around the world at a catered dinner at the Olympia Fields Barn. A good time was had by all!
